4th Grade Curriculum:
English Language Arts (ELA): Our ELA program combines reading and writing along with grammar in a holistic approach. Our reading textbook is Texas Treasures and we have Voyages in Writing and Grammar. In addition, students read chapter books such as “Shiloh” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor as a class and then apply comprehension skills to answer questions and complete written assignments regarding the novel. Students also learn about the complete writing process and how to apply revising and editing skills to written work.
Math: Our Math book is Sadlier-Oxford Progress in Mathematics and we use that in addition to other resources to cover the essential skills set forth by the Diocese and the State of Texas.
Science: Our Science text is Houghton-Mifflin Science Fusion. Once again, we use it in addition to other resources that meet the essential skills of science for 4th grade. Students also engage in scientific observations and experiments.
Social Studies: We use Texas Studies Weekly, a newspaper with articles that teach students about Texas history. Students learn essential vocabulary and answer questions about each lesson. In addition, students participate in special learning activities like a Texas Living History Museum where they research and present information about a famous Texan.
Religion: Our Sunday Visitor- Alive in Christ for 4th grade is an interactive text that requires students to reflect and answer questions as each chapter is studied. Students apply the questions to their own lives as they learn about the teachings of the Catholic Faith.
